Maintaining your health can help you to not only feel happier and healthier, but it can also lead you to finding academic success and success in your job. This does not mean you have to become a gym junkie in order to find success in your life; it just means that taking care of your body mentally and physically can help set you up for a productive, rewarding day. And when this health is maintained, it can translate into a productive lifestyle. The following is our advice for staying healthy during a time when we are mostly confined to our homes.
Getting Fresh Air
While we are technically bound to our homes during these months, we can still leave in some capacity to breathe in the fresh air of the great outdoors. This could be in the form of a leisure stroll through your neighborhood, tossing a ball or frisbee around, laying out and tanning, or just pulling out a chair and sitting outside. Something that I have found enjoyable during these times is to complete some work and school assignments outside when possible. Soaking up that extra vitamin D and breathing in fresh air helps me to feel better and keep my mind at peace while I work.
Staying Active
Even though many physical buildings for exercising like gyms or tracks are closed, we are still able to be active, whether we stay inside or get outside. As previously mentioned, if you have roommates or live with other family members, you can play some sort of outside game. You could also go for runs through your neighborhood or park or take your dog for a walk. Another option for staying indoors and exercising is following a workout video on YouTube or the app FitOn. Thanks to the Internet, there are plenty of free resources for exercising in your home and without the use of any equipment. Some of the 10 best workout channels on YouTube include The Fitness Marshall, Popsugar Fitness, HASfit, and Fitness Blender. Cnet has organized these YouTubers by the style of workout. Finding the workout style that you enjoy will help motivate you to stay active!
Varying Your Activities
On more of the mental side of your health, it is important that you continue to stimulate your brain, even though life has become increasingly more routine than in the past. While many of us have spent most of our quarantine indulging in Tiger King and other great new releases on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney +, it is important to spend our time doing some other activities than binging TV and movies. One great activity that encourages some brain activity is completing puzzles. Along the line of puzzles, you can also crack into some of your favorite board games and card games to stimulate your competitive side and encourage the use of your brain power. Aside from movies and games, you can also spend some time advancing your career through receiving online certifications relevant to your field of interest or searching for your next internship or job. While many places have freezes on hiring, it is still a great opportunity to look at what jobs are out there and connect with their recruiters.
