Dressing Sustainably for the Career Fair

Our semi-annual All Majors Career & Internship Fair is fast-approaching, so you might be in the market for new or improved professional attire! As students, we know that budget is a huge factor, especially for clothes you probably won't wear everyday. We also recognize that many of you might like to shop second-hand, as it is environmentally-friendly and easy on the purse strings, too! With that in mind, we've compiled a list of our favorite online and community-based second-hand shops for your all your professional dress needs!

Shopping Online

An online second-hand store, Poshmark is probably one of the most convenient options, as you can purchase clothing items from anywhere you have an internet connection. Poshmark gives shoppers the options to search clothing, accessories, and shoes by size, brand name, sellers, and more. Have extra clothes in your own closet you're looking to get rid of? You can sell on Poshmark, too. Shop using the app, available for IPhones and Android users, or you can use the online browser.

Similar to Poshmark, Vinted gives people a platform to sell their gently used clothes. You can find clothes, shoes, and accessories for Men, Women, and Kids on Vinted, and much of their items are really well priced! Shop brands from Ralph Lauren and Chicos to Forever 21 and Old Navy.

Though Vinted and Poshmark do carry some men's clothing and accessories, Grailed is specifically catered to a more masculine style. They carry clothing and accessories on many different price levels from all over the world, so this online store is great for all kinds of shoppers.

Looking for some unique accessory pieces? I love shopping on Esty for any

accessory to complete the perfect look, especially since it is fairly easy to find something within the scope of your budget. There is something for everyone's style on Etsty, and much of the product sold there is handmade or customizable.

Shopping Local

Though shopping at thrift stores is more time-consuming than shopping online, you can often get a better value for a lesser price. Omaha has many different second-hand stores that could have just what you are looking to wear for the upcoming Career Fair.

Among the more popular second-hand stores in Omaha are Hand Me-Ups, Goodwill, and Thrift America. Taking an afternoon to shop at a few different second-hand stores is usually best. Find something that you like, but it doesn't quite fit you right? Often, I find that purchasing an item that might be a bit big and getting it fitted at a tailors is much less expensive than purchasing a similar item that fits better at a department store.
